Released in 1987, "Scream Bloody Gore" is the debut studio album from the legendary American death metal band Death. This album has become an important release in the death metal genre, and it's easy to see why. From its brutal and dark sound to its outstanding production, "Scream Bloody Gore" is an album that still holds up today as a classic of the genre.

One of the first things that stands out about this album is the quality of the production. "Scream Bloody Gore" is especially impressive when you consider the time in which it was recorded. In 1987, death metal was still a relatively new and underground genre, and many albums from that era suffered from poor production values. However, "Scream Bloody Gore" stands out as a very good example of how to properly record and produce a classic death metal album.

Additionally, every instrument is well balanced, and the mix is clear and powerful, even though the final master has low volume in my opinion, making you to raise the volume of your player a little bit in order to appreciate in full all the instruments and vocals. On the other hand, the guitars have a raw and crunchy edge that slices through the mix, while the bass is thick and heavy, providing a solid foundation for the music. The drums sound massive, with every hit of the kick drum and snare drum sounding like a sledgehammer blow. The vocals, meanwhile, are perfectly placed in the mix, giving them a commanding presence that demands attention even though in some parts, I personally think that the voice has more volume than the instruments (especially the guitars and bass), but this is just a minor aspect.

Another important thing about this release is the quality of the songwriting. From the opening track "Infernal Death" to the closing track "Scream Bloody Gore", the album is filled with songs that are both catchy and brutal. The riffs are memorable and most of the melodies are haunting, making the songs stick in your head long after the album has finished, like for example the opening riff of “Zombie Ritual” or the chorus part of “Evil Dead”, “Mutilation” or “Scream Bloody Gore”. The lyrics, which deal with themes of death, gore, and violence, are also well-written and perfectly suited to the music.

One of the things that sets "Scream Bloody Gore" apart from other death metal albums is the quality of the Chuck’s guitar (and bass) playing. He was a true master of his craft, especially for this age, when he was just a 20 years old kid. His playing here is fast, precise, and incredibly technical in both instruments. Also, Schuldiner's solos are especially impressive, as it seems that are not composed with the purpose of being melodic but fast and aggressive instead, making the style of this production very unique and fits very well with the music.

In addition to Schuldiner's guitar playing, the performances of the rest of the band are also outstanding. Drummer Chris Reifert, provides a relentless barrage of beats that perfectly complements the guitar riffs. His way to play drums fits awesome with the dark and heavy music Chuck created as his attack when hitting the drums are clear and precise. Chuck, as the bassist here, adds a layer of heaviness to the music that is essential to the death metal sound, although in my very personal opinion, the bass here needs a little more presence as most of the time you need to make some effort to hear it and maybe with a more present bass, sound itself could improve significantly. And while the vocals may not be for everyone, they are undeniably powerful and effective in conveying the lyrics' dark and gruesome themes of this album. His guttural screams and growls are a hallmark of the death metal genre, and on this album, they are particularly potent. The screams of "Evil Dead", "Mutilation" and "Scream Bloody Gore" are brutal!

The only potential negative aspect of "Scream Bloody Gore" is that it may become a little monotonous. The relentless barrage of fast riffs, pounding drums, and guttural vocals can start to blend together after a while. However, the potential monotony of this album is more of a minor aspect than a serious flaw, and for fans of the genre, it is part of what makes the album so appealing.

Overall, "Scream Bloody Gore" is an album that still stands up today as a classic of the death metal genre. Its production, quality, and sound are all top-notch, and the performances of the band are nothing short of outstanding. While it may not be for everyone, fans of death metal will find much to appreciate in this album. From its memorable riffs to its powerful vocals.

Una de las primeras cosas que destaca de este álbum es la calidad de la producción. "Scream Bloody Gore" es especialmente impresionante cuando se tiene en cuenta la época en la que fue grabado. Las voces, por su parte, están perfectamente ubicadas en la mezcla, lo que les da una presencia imponente que exige atención, aunque en algunas partes, personalmente creo que la voz tiene más volumen que los instrumentos (especialmente las guitarras y el bajo), pero este es solo un aspecto menor.

Otra cosa importante sobre este lanzamiento es la calidad de la composición de las canciones. Desde la primer canción "Infernal Death" hasta la pista de cierre "Scream Bloody Gore", el álbum está lleno de canciones que son a la vez pegadizas y brutales. Los riffs son memorables y la mayoría de las melodías son inquietantes, haciendo que las canciones se queden en tu cabeza mucho después de que el álbum haya terminado, como por ejemplo el riff inicial de "Zombie Ritual" o la parte del coro de "Evil Dead", "Mutilation" o "Scream Bloody Gore". Las letras, que tratan temas de muerte, gore y violencia, también están bien escritas y son perfectamente adecuadas para la música.

Una de las cosas que distingue a "Scream Bloody Gore" de otros álbumes de death metal es la calidad de la guitarra (y bajo) de Chuck. Él era un verdadero maestro, especialmente para su edad, cuando era un chico de tan solo 20 años. Su interpretación aquí es rápida, precisa e increíblemente técnica en ambos instrumentos. Además, los solos de Schuldiner son especialmente impresionantes, ya que parece que no fueron compuestos con el propósito de ser melódicos, sino más bien rápidos y agresivos, lo que hace que el estilo de esta producción sea muy único y se adapte muy bien a la música.

Sus gritos guturales son una característica del género del death metal, y en este álbum, son particularmente potentes. ¡Los gritos de "Evil Dead", "Mutilation" y "Scream Bloody Gore" son brutales!

El único aspecto potencialmente negativo de "Scream Bloody Gore" es que puede volverse un poco monótono. El implacable bombardeo de riffs rápidos, baterías contundentes y voces guturales puede empezar a mezclarse después de un tiempo. Sin embargo, la posible monotonía de este álbum es más un aspecto menor que un defecto grave, y para los fans del género, es parte de lo que hace que el álbum sea tan atractivo.

En resumen, "Scream Bloody Gore" es un álbum que aún hoy se mantiene como un clásico del género del death metal. Killer Souls - Reckoning

Pure Fucking Thrash Metal - 100%

I know I said this in other previous reviews, but I'm a big fan of thrash metal genre. When I was a teenager and I started to listen to metal, thrash metal was one of the first genres I've ever heard since the very beginning of my metal path, so this album, perfectly played by Killer Souls, demonstrate that the essence of thrash metal is still alive out there and will make you headbang a lot.

Before I start with the review content, it's very rare that I can give a 100% score on any album I hear, independently of the genre, but I need to stand up and applaud the work that Killer Souls did here. I just fucking love this album! Let me tell you why.

First of all, I have to say that I listened to Killer Souls since their very first release and in the beginning, they know how to create high quality music, and especially, thrash metal, but "Reckoning" album is the clear evidence of their improvement as a band, everything here is just perfect. The recording, mastering and mixing work here was excellently done, you as a listener, will be able to hear every instrument without any effort from you and you can identify every note played by their very skillful musicians. Drums, guitars, bass and vocals can be heard in a perfect way here and no instrument is opaqued by another one or even the vocals, so I have to take my hat off and congratulate their job done in this release. Also, Edgar's voice, in my opinion, fits perfect in their music style, giving to the band a very powerful and "thrash" essence that makes you remember the thrash metal produced in the 90's but with an actual music like Warbringer or actual Kreator for example, which means the best thrash metal are not the "old school" one, the newer one is also a very good option to hear, especially with melodic riffs as "Reckoning" album, even though if you're more familiarized with the thrash produced in the past.

In terms of their music as a general, every song is very well composed and have powerful riffs that will make you headbang at least once, but I'm pretty sure it'll be more than once. I bet that if you take away the voice and just listen to the music and I tell you "Hey, have you heard the new Kreator's song?" I'm pretty sure you'll say this is Kreator song as a first impression. Also, every musician here is skillful enough to play a well done thrash metal. Additionally, the solos are very clean and you can distinguish every note from them as well as the harmonized ones that gives to the band a very unique style that sounds actually pretty good.

Finally, if you like thrash metal as much as I do, "Reckoning" is more than recommended. In a personal opinion, you MUST have this one. Why? C'mon, this is just a very well done thrash metal and you will be not disappointed by this album. This will give you enough faith in actual thrash metal and I have to say that I cannot recommend you just one or two songs from this album because all songs are just perfect, but "There's Nothing Without Blood", "Reckoning" and "The Unborn" (this last one my personal favorite) are my recommendations. ¡Puro puto Thrash metal! - 100%

Sé que ya lo he dicho en algunas otras reseñas, pero soy un gran fan del Thrash Metal. Cuando era un adolescente y empecé a escuchar metal, el Thrash Metal fue uno de los primeros géneros que escuché y el principio de mi camino por el Metal, así que este álbum, tocado perfecto por Killer Souls, demuestra que la esencia del Thrash Metal aún está viva y te hará mover un montón la cabeza.

Antes de comenzar con la reseña, es muy extraño que de un 100% en cualquier álbum que escuche, independientemente del género, pero me pongo de pie y aplaudo por el trabajo que los miembros de Killer Souls hicieron aquí. ¡Amo este puto álbum! Y déjame decirte por qué.

Primero que todo, tengo que decir que he escuchado Killer Souls desde su primer lanzamiento y desde el principio, ellos supieron cómo crear música de gran calidad y especialmente, Thrash Metal, pero “Reckoning” es el claro ejemplo de su mejore como banda, todo aquí es simplemente perfecto. La grabación, la mezcla y el trabajo de masterización fue hecho excelentemente y tú, como escucha, podrás apreciar cada instrumento sin ningún esfuerzo y podrás identificar cada nota tocada por sus habilidosos músicos. La batería, guitarras, bajo y voz se pueden escuchar perfectamente y ningún instrumento opaca al otro o a la voz, por lo que tengo que felicitar su trabajo en este lanzamiento. También, la voz de Edgar, en mi opinión, encaja perfecto con su música, dándole a la banda una muy profesional esencia “Thrash” que te hará recordar el Thrash producido en los 90’s pero con toques actuales, como Warbringer o el actual Kreator por ejemplo, lo que significa que no todo el buen Thrash metal no es solo “el de la vieja escuela”, el moderno también es muy bueno, especialmente los riffs melódicos del disco “Reckoning”, incluso si estás más familiarizado con el Thrash producido en el pasado.

En términos de su música en general, cada canción fue bien compuesta y tiene riffs poderosos que le harán mover la cabeza por lo menos una vez, pero estoy seguro que lo hará más de una vez. Apuesto a que si quitas la voz y escuchas solo la música y te digo “Oye, ¿Ya escuchaste la nueva canción de Kreator?” Estoy seguro que pensará que es una nueva canción de Kreator como primera impresión. Además, cada músico aquí es lo suficientemente hábil para tocar buen Thrash metal. Adicionalmente, los solos son bastante limpios y puedes distinguir cada nota de ellos de igual forma que los armonizados le dan a la banda un estilo único que suena bastante bien.

Finalmente, si te gusta el Thrash metal tanto como a mí, “Reckoning” está más que recomendado. En una opinión personal, DEBES tener este disco. ¿Por qué? Vamos, esto es solo Thrash metal bien hecho y no te decepcionarás de este disco. Este te dará suficiente fe en el Thrash moderno y tengo que decir que no puedo recomendar solo una o dos canciones de este álbum porque todas las canciones son perfectas, pero “There’s Nothing Without Blood”, “Reckoning” y “The Unborn” (esta última mi favorita personal) son mis recomendaciones. Si estás leyendo esto y no has escuchado el disco ¿Qué estás esperando? Ve a su Bandcamp y apoya a la banda comprando su álbum, valdrá la pena. Confía en mí.

 

Apocalypto - Podrido blasfemo extremo y oscuro

Not bad for their first work - 85%

I am not a fan of black metal and only like some songs from this genre, but listening to this Apocalypto production, I can realize that they did an excellent job here, mixing black with death metal and giving this band a really nice sound, even if this is their first demo.

First of all, mixing, mastering and tone of the instruments are done well, considering most demos are medium or bad quality. But in this one, the band put a lot of effort, trying to get an excellent sound from each instrument, listening very well every note of each. This seems to me that the musicians have a vast experience in the metal scene.

Even if the demo has a great sound, I have to say there are some things that they can improve for next productions. In this demo they only recorded one guitar and I would like to hear a background guitar when a solo is played. Also, the voices needs to sound a little bit louder because in some cases, the instruments make the voice opaque.

Also, this demo has a Death cover so I need to write about it because I'm a big Death fan and think that with the quality of their sound (speed, technique and genre), they could do a better job in the Evil Dead cover here. The speed of the song is slower than the original Death song, so when you listen to the song with a higher speed that makes you headbang, this one is slower and maybe you will not like it for that reason.

Finally, if you like death metal and black metal as well, I recommend this band even if they only have one demo with short songs. They did a great job here, and you will enjoy listening to this demo and the dark riffs it has. Although they should improve some things in later productions, the truth is that they are skilled musicians that can play great music in the future.

Nada mal para su primer trabajo - 85%

No soy un gran fan del black metal y solo me gustan algunas canciones de este género, pero escuchando esta producción de Apocalypto, puedo apreciar que hicieron un gran trabajo aquí, mezclando black con death metal y dándole a la banda un buen sonido, incluso si es su primer demo.

Primero que todo, la mezcla, masterización y tono de los instrumentos está muy bien hecho, considerando que la mayoría de los demos tienen media o pobre calidad. Pero en este, la banda hizo un gran esfuerzo, tratando de obtener un excelente sonido de cada instrumento y escuchándose muy bien cada nota. Esto me parece que los músicos tienen una vasta experiencia en la escena metal.

Incluso si este demo tiene un gran sonido, tengo que decir que hay ciertas cosas que ellos pueden mejorar para próximas producciones. En este demo, ellos solo grabaron una guitarra y me hubiera gustado poder escuchar una guitarra de fondo mientras los solos se escuchan. También, las voces necesitan ser escuchadas un poco más porque en algunos casos, los instrumentos opacan la voz.

También, este demo tiene un cover de Death y tengo que escribir al respecto porque soy un gran fan de Death y pienso que la calidad del sonido (velocidad, técnica y género), pudo haber sido un poco mejor en el cover de Evil Death. La velocidad es menor que la canción original de Death, entonces cuando escuchas la canción con mayor velocidad y que te hace hacer headbang, esta tiene menor velocidad y no me gusta por esta razón.

Finalmente, si te gusta el black y death metal, recomiendo esta banda incluso si ellos solo tienen un demo con pocas canciones. Ellos hicieron un grran trabajo aquí  y vas a disfrutar escuchando este demo y los riffs oscuros que tiene. Aunque ellos deben mejorar algunas cosas para futuras producciones, la verdad es que ellos son músicos muy habilidosos que pueden tocar música genial en el futuro.

  

Onmyouza - Kishibojin

The Beginning of a New Era - 98%

I have some years listening to Onmyouza and with time, I became a very big fan of their music and concept, mixing almost perfectly, Japanese folklore and heavy metal with high power in their music. One of the best characteristics of Onmyouza is the variations on their music and their very skillful musicians, that "squeeze" each instrument note. Onmyouza never plays the same music in terms of music genre as well. For example, in one album, you can perfectly listen heavy metal, power metal, thrash metal rhythms, ballads and for me, they have progressive metal influences too. For that reason, this production is not the exception.

But, I always think that the Tora's left from the band, affects significantly the band, for that reason, they "need a change" to respect, or maybe, to afford the drummer's left. So, Kishibojin is the beginning of a new era for Onmyouza and this album proves it well. First of all, for this album especially, I will reduce the songs name because all have the "Kumikyoku Kishibojin" in it, so I will take the real name of the song, for example, "Samayoi", "Shuushuu" and so on.

Then, when you hear the first song (Shuushuu) and starts "Samayoi" you immediately realize that the Onmyouza's average sound has changed a lot, especially the guitar and bass sound, giving them a darker and heavier sound to their songs and I have to say that I love it. Although the sound has changed, the vocals are almost the same but, feeds perfectly with their new style and rhythm, that won't disappoint if you have some time listening to Onmyouza.

Another important thing, is the creation of a concept album, in the way that all the songs have the previous titles, that means that you almost can't listen to this release without respecting the order. For example, if you have listened to their previous albums, you will perceive that other songs have the same "Kumikyoku" in the titles, like "Kumikyoku Kyuubi", "Kumikyoku Yoshitsune" or "Kumikyoku Kurozuka" and I have to say that I know some Japanese, so I realize that the "Kumikyoku" songs are like stories or tales, for that reason can't be listened separately, because would lose their essence, even if you don't have knowledge in Japanese language.

In terms of mastering, mixing and producing, the work done here is simply great. All instruments feed perfectly with the voices and the adding of a keyboard on this album, brings to their songs a melodic style that makes their sound more professional and experienced. Also, guitars solos sound great and, as usual, the harmonized melodies are present in this production, and makes me love this more because they maintain their initial music style. Although some tracks have a very heavy rhythm like "Namasu", "Samayoi" or "Kishibojin" they know how to feed their voices in any song, harmonizing it without losing their characteristic style.

Additionally, this album have two ballads (Gekkou and Zakuro to Jubaku), that makes a soft essence to the concept, guessing that the lyrics tell a story about Kishibojin (The goddess of childbirth), that probably is sad or quiet but will take to the listener into a musical trip similar to watching a movie or reading a book, for that reason, I think that without these songs, the album won't be the same, because is the Onmyouza's style and even you are expecting a ballad in almost any album and, for sure, the Onmyouza's ballads are pretty good.

Finally, if you are new listening to Onmyouza's newest productions, you will love this one because are the beginning of their new musical era but, if you have some years listening to them and you are familiarized with their "old" sound, prepare for a drastic change, because, from this album, the darker riffs and songs will be more constant. Also, this album might be a "must-have" even if you don't know Japanese, their music, style, and rhythm won't disappoint you.

Songs that I recommend: "Samayoi", "Namasu", "Zakuro to Jubaku", "Kishibojin", "Michi" and "Kikoku".

El Comienzo de una Nueva Era - 98%

Tengo algunos años escuchando Onmyouza y con el tiempo, me convertí en un gran fan de su música y su concepto, mezclando casi a la perfección, folclore japonés y heavy metal con un gran poder en su música. Una de las mejores características de Onmyouza es la gran variedad en su música y sus músicos habilidosos, que “exprimen” cada nota de su intrumento. Onmyouza nunca toca la misma música en términos de género. Por ejemplo, en un álbum, usted puede escuchar perfectamente heavy metal, power metal, ritmos thrash metal, baladas y para mi, también tienen influencias de progressive metal también. Por esa razón, esta producción no es la excepción.

Pero, siempre pensé que la salida de Tora de la banda, los afectó significativamente, por esta razón, ellos “necesitaban un cambio” para respetar, o talvez, afrontar la salida de su baterista. Así, Kishibojin es el principio de una nueva era para Onmyouza y este álbum lo prueba bien. Primero que todo, para este álbum específicamente, voy a reducir el nombre de las canciones porque todas tienen el “Kumikyoku Kishibojin”, entonces voy a tomar el nombre real de cada canción, por ejemplo, “Samayoi”, “Shuushuu” y así.

Entonces, cuando escucha la primera canción (Shuushuu) y luego empieza “Samayoi”, usted inmediatamente realiza que el sonido típico de Onmyouza cambió bastante, específicamente el sonido de las guitarras y el bajo, dándole un sonido más oscuro y pesado a sus canciones y tengo que decir que me encantó. Aunque el sonido haya cambiado, las voces son casi las mismas, pero encajan perfectamente con su nuevo estilo y ritmo que no te decepcionará si tiene tiempo de escuchar Onmyouza.

Otro aspecto importante es la creación de un álbum conceptual, en la manera en que sus canciones tienen títulos previos, que significa que casi debes escuchar cada canción respetando su orden. Por ejemplo, si ha escuchado alguno de sus álbumes anteriores, puedes apreciar que otras canciones tienen el mismo “Kumikyoku” en los títulos, por ejemplo, “Kumikyoku Kyuubi”, “Kumikyoku Yoshitsune” o “Kumikyoku Kurozuka” y tengo que decir que se algo de japonés, entonces entendí que las canciones “Kumikyoku” son como historias o cuentos, por esa razón no se pueden escuchar separadas, porque se perdería su esencia, incluso si no tiene conocimiento en el idioma japonés.

En términos de masterizado, mezcla y producción, el trabajo realizado aquí es simplemente genial. Todos los instrumentos encajan perfectamente con las voces y agregando un teclado a este álbum, da a sus canciones un estilo melódico que hace sus canciones más profesionales y con experiencia. También, los solos de guitarra suenan genial, como siempre, las melodías armonizadas están presentes en esta producción y me hacen amar este disco cada vez más porque mantienen su estilo musical inicial. Aunque algunas canciones tienen un ritmo más pesado como “Namasu”, “Samayoi” o “Kishibojin”. Ellos supieron cómo encajar las voces en cada canción, armonizándolas sin perder su estilo característico.

Adicionalmente, este álbum tiene dos baladas (Gekkou y Zakuro to Jubaku), que le dan una esencia suave al concepto, suponiendo que las letras cuentan una historia de Kishibojin (la diosa de la infancia y los nacimientos), que probablemente es triste o tranquila pero enviará al que escucha por un viaje musical similar a ver una película o leer un libro, por esta razón, pienso que sin estas canciones, el álbum no sería el mismo, porque es el estilo de  Onmyouza e incluso puedes esperar una balada en casi cualquiera de sus álbumes y, estoy seguro, las baladas de Onmyouza son excelentes.

Finalmente, si eres nuevo escuchando Onmyouza, vas a amar este álbum porque es el principio de una nueva era musical para ellos, pero, si tienes algunos años escuchándolos y estás familiarizado con su “antiguo” estilo, prepárate para un cambio drástico, porque, a partir de este álbum, los riffs y canciones oscuras serán más constantes. También, este álbum es de “tenencia obligatoria” incluso si no sabes japonés, su música, estilo y ritmo no te van a decepcionar.

Canciones que recomiendo: "Samayoi", "Namasu", "Zakuro to Jubaku", "Kishibojin", "Michi" and "Kikoku".

A Masterpiece but with Things that Could Be Better - 85%

Before fully entering with the elements and factors that I will expose here about this album, I think I need to say that this Death's sound is entirely different from their other releases, so I strongly recommend you, dear reader, that if you start listen to Death from here, maybe you will encounter a different idea about any comments you read on the internet or from another metalheads, so, I think is a good idea that you start listen the old Death and the reasons of that will be explained here in my opinion; and when you're ready, enjoy this awesome album as it should be.

When I discover Death about 10 years ago, I was hooked immediately because the high quality of their sound, Chuck vocals and talent of this "Father of death metal". Also, the moment of listening The Sound of Perseverance finally came and I really think that, at this time, Death was not even a shadow of it was in their first ages, but it can be negated that this production has a very skillful musicians playing their instruments with high accuracy and a lot of superb riffs.

In terms of music quality, the mastering, mixing, recording and that studio stuff was very well done in this one. Compared to the other release, is obviously that they improved exceedingly the quality. Additionally, all the instruments were recorded very well, the guitars, bass and drums can be heard perfectly. I think that maybe the bass could have more presence here but, it is a little element. Also, Chuck was characterized for looking for a very skillful musicians that satisfy his music style and proposals, for that reason, in this case, Richard, Shanon and Scott were the right ones to capture the Chuck's ideas, especially, the high ability of Richard Christy to play the drums, this man is a fucking machine, tempo changes, consistent double bass drum like in "Bite the Pain" for example and absolute domain if his instrument. Shannon and Scott are also a very capable musicians and if you ask me, they have done an excellent job on this album too, feeding the album with a perfect sound, characteristic of progressive death metal bands. 

At this point, why I say that you need to start listen to older Death's albums, simple, from the beginning, Death was a pure death metal band and I always think that when Death was founded, Chuck was almost a teenager so, from Scream Bloody Gore to this album, you can appreciate the Chuck evolution of his band and point of view about death metal in general, for that reason, I recommend to listen their albums in chronological order, to fully enjoy the evolution of Death and to realize why Death becomes the band that produce The Sound of Perseverance. The changes that they suffer with time and the sound of every album allows you to understand what Chuck wants for his music and why he constantly change the members of the band till reach the sound he wants. 

It is true that The Sound of Perseverance is not "pure" death metal and their sound is more progressive, giving to the band a new way to play music separated from Death's original idea. But, this makes The Sound of Perseverance a bad album, not exactly, why? Because Chuck made good music, even if he changes the initial idea of his band, maintaining the line of making death metal in a different way. 

But, unfortunately, not all in this album ere good things, Death committed some errors and are things that could be better or even, they could erase for this album, what are those things? First, in this production you can hear the very damaged Chuck's vocals that are nearly compared to black metal singers, giving to the album a different sound that doesn't fill at all. Second, in my opinion, I think that Chuck could do a better job writing the lyrics for this album, although the lyrics have a deep message, if you pay attention to each song lyric, you will realize that are not so deep and coherent. Third, a song like Voice of the Soul (that is a fucking masterpiece, really) could be included as a bonus track or something like that, because you are used to listen fast metal and headbanging riffs from the other release and The Sound of Perseverance is not the exception, for that reason, I think this song shouldn't be on this album as a regular song. And fourth, I have the idea that The Sound of Perseverance shouldn't be released as a Death album, I prefer to listen this one as a Control Denied album, Death finished their career in Symbolic, was not necessary to release another album, especially with Chuck's vocals so damaged at that time but, it can be negated that exceed my expectation and ended up being an awesome release.

To finish, Death always be a must-listen band for all metalheads and it doesn't matter if in the end, Death doesn't like you, is part of the death metal and metal (in general) history, Chuck became a pioneer and left a legacy of what metal is nowadays. I know that this is not their best album, but give it a chance, I know that even if you are more old Death fan, you will enjoy this production. Additionally, I want to recommend the songs that I consider the best ones: Scavenger of Human Sorrow, Spirit Crusher and Flesh and the Power It Holds (my favourite).

Una Joya pero con Cosas que Pudieron Mejorar - 85%

Antes de entrar de lleno con los elementos y factores que voy a exponer acerca este álbum, pienso que es necesario decir que el sonido de este Death es completamente diferente de sus otros discos, por eso te sugiero enormemente, querido lector, que si empiezas a escuchar Death desde aquí, tal vez encuentres una idea diferente sobre cualquier comentario que lea en Internet o que escuches de otros metaleros, por eso, pienso que es una buena idea que empieces escuchando el viejo Death y las razones para eso las explicaré aquí; y cuando estés listo, disfrutes de este grandioso álbum como debe ser.

Cuando descubrí Death hace unos 10 años atrás, quedé enganchado inmediatamente por la gran calidad de su sonido, la voz de Chuck y el talento de este "Padre del death metal". Además, el momento de escuchar "The Sound of Perseverance" finalmente llegó y me di cuenta que, en este punto, Death no era ni tan siquiera una sombre de lo que había sido en sus primeros años, pero no se puede negar que esta producción posee músicos muy habilidosos, tocando sus instrumentos con una gran precisión y un montón de riffs geniales.

En términos de calidad musical, la masterización, la mezcla, grabación y todas esas cosas de estudio se hicieron muy bien en este disco. Comparado con los otros discos, es obvio que mejoraron exageradamente la calidad. Adicionalmente, todos los instrumentos se grabaron muy bien, las guitarras, bajo y batería se pueden escuchar perfectamente. Pienso que el bajo pudo haber tenido un poco más presencia aquí, pero no es algo tan importante. También, Chuck se caracterizaba por buscar siempre músicos muy habilidosos que satisficieran su estilo musical y sus propuestas, por esa razón, en este caso, Richard, Shannon y Scott fueron los ideales para captar las ideas de Chuck, especialmente la gran habilidad de Richard Christy para tocar la batería, este hombre es una jodida máquina, cambios de tiempo, doble bombo consistente como por ejemplo en "Bite the Pain", y un dominio absoluto de su instrumento. Shannon y Scott también son músicos muy capaces y si me lo preguntas, ellos también hicieron un excelente trabajo en este álbum, llenándolo con un sonido perfecto, característico de bandas de death metal progresivo.

En este punto ¿Por qué dije que necesitas escuchar primero los álbumes más viejos de Death? Simple, desde el principio, Death era una banda de death metal puro y siempre pensé que desde que Death se fundó, Chuck era casi un adolescente, por lo que, desde el Scream Bloody Gore hasta este álbum, puedes apreciar la evolución de Chuck y su banda y desde un punto de vista del death metal en general, por esa razón, sugiero que escuches los álbumes de Death cronológicamente, para disfrutar toda la evolución de Death y comprender por qué esta banda se convirtió en la que produjo "The Sound of Perseverance". Los cambios que sufrieron con el tiempo y el sonido de cada álbum permite comprender lo que Chuck quería para su música y el por qué cambiaba los miembros de su banda hasta conseguir el sonido que él quería.

Es verdad que "The Sound of Perseverance" no es death metal "puro" y su sonido es más progresivo, dándole a la banda una nueva manera de hacer música separado de la idea original de Death. Pero, esto hace a "The Sound of Perseverance" un mal álbum, no exactamente, ¿Por qué? Porque Chuck hizo buena música, incluso si cambió la idea original de su banda, manteniendo la idea de seguir haciendo death metal de una manera diferente.

Pero, desafortunadamente, no todo en este álbum son cosas buenas, Death cometió algunos errores y las cosas pudieron ser mejores o incluso, haber sido borradas de este álbum, ¿Qué tipo de cosas? Primero, en esta producción puedes oír lo dañada que estaba la voz de Chuck, que es casi comparable a la de los vocalistas de black metal, dándole al álbum un sonido diferente que no termina de calzar. Segundo, en mi opinión, pienso que Chuck pudo haber hecho un mejor trabajo escribiendo las letras para este disco, aunque las letras tienen un mensaje profundo, si pones atención a cada una de las letras, te darás cuenta que no son tan profundas y coherentes. Tercero, una canción como "Voice of the Soul" (que es una jodida obra maestra, en serio) pudo haberse incluído como un pista bonus o algo similar, porque estás acostumbrado a escuchar metal rápido y riffs que harán mover tu cabeza desde otros discos y The Sound of Perseverance" no es la excepción, por esa razón, pienso que esta canción no debió estar en este álbum como una canción regular. Y cuarto, tengo la idea de que "The Sound of Perseverance" no debió ser lanzado como un álbum de Death, prefiero escuchar esto como un disco de Control Denied, Death terminó su carrera con el Symbolic, no era necesario lanzar otro álbum, especialmente con la voz de Chuck tan dañada en aquel tiempo pero, no se puede negar que excedieron mis expectativas y terminaron lanzando un disco increíble.

Para finalizar,  Death siempre será una banda obligatoria de escuchar por todos los metaleros y no importa si al final, Death no te gustó, es parte de la historia del death metal y el metal (en general), Chuck se convirtió en un pionero y dejó un legado de lo que es el metal hoy en día. Se que este no es su mejor álbum, pero dale una oportunidad, se que si eres fan del Death viejo, vas a disfrutar esta producción. Adicionalmente, quiero recomendar las canciones que considero son las mejores: Scavenger of Human Sorrow, Spirit Crusher y Flesh and the Power It Holds (mi favorita).
